Sacramento - California Democratic Party Chairman Art Torres today released a statement on behalf of all California voters commending the leadership of California Secretary of State Debra Bowen for her unprecedented analysis over the last few months of California's voting systems and related security procedures. In her role as the chief elections officer for California, Secretary Bowen has the constitutional authority and responsibility to test and certify the voting systems.
"Secretary Bowen should be commended for her determination to ensure that all voting machines used in California are accurate, secure and accessible, and that every ballot is counted exactly as it is cast. We applaud the Secretary's long-standing commitment to open government reform and transparency.
"Secretary Bowen's administration inherited concerns of accuracy in voting equipment and the California Democratic Party calls on all elections officials to work around the clock with the Secretary of State to implement procedures that will rebuild accuracy in the process and confidence in the voters.
"We further call on all civic groups, Democratic Clubs and Central Committees to join us in providing active support for the implementation of the review's findings.
"On behalf of the California Democratic Party, I want to thank Secretary Bowen for her leadership in working with our elections administration officials in their efforts to ensure the security of California elections, and to increase voter participation and voter confidence throughout the state."
